Avalanche Awareness
The Avalanche Awareness class focuses on terrain recognition and avoiding exposure to avalanche paths. This course is typically a full day in length. Students can expect to learn the following:
The basic safety equipment necessary for winter travel.
How to find and comprehend the avalanche advisory and basic weather forecasts.
The importance of preparation and training, since most avalanche accidents are triggered by the people involved.
Where avalanches can and cannot occur, and how to create a plan for managing risk in the backcountry.
