Avalanche Rescue Fundamentals

February 3, 2024 (Saturday 8:00a-4:00p Field Session)

 This one day course is eight hours in the field and can be before or after the Level One Course.  Maximum of 6:1 student to teacher ratio.

Some of the topics covered:

  • Understanding of actions needed by the victim and responders when an  avalanche incident occurs.

  • They will demonstrate appropriate search techniques in various situations as a solo rescuer and as part of a group rescue.

  • Participants will work through one and two transceiver burials within specific areas and time  constraints.

  • Students will learn appropriate methods and the process for locating a victim who is not wearing a transceiver.

  • Once the patient is excavated, students will identify likely medical issues and complications. We will discuss the  importance for additional medical training outside the scope of this course.

  • Discussion of formal incident response along with how and when to request EMS resources will be covered.
