East Coast Avalanche Education is an American Avalanche Association (A3) approved course provider based in the Northeastern U.S. We currently instruct Avalanche Awareness, Avalanche Rescue, Avalanche Level One Courses and our instructors are either A3 Pro or Affiliate members in good standing with the American Avalanche Association.

Jeff Lane
Jeff Lane has spent the better part of the last 20 years working in the White Mountains, primarily as a Snow Ranger with the Mount Washington Avalanche Center. After 11 years working for the USFS as professional forecaster and search and rescue leader, he left his job in 2016 to become a full-time parent and part-time avalanche and wilderness medicine educator. He holds a master's degree in Outdoor Education, is a professional member of the American Avalanche Association, and uses his skills as a Wilderness EMT volunteering for his hometown fire department and as a ski patroller.

Owen is a passionate skier, educator, and guide who enjoys the connections built through time in the mountains. Before relocating to New Hampshire's Mount Washington Valley, Owen worked as a ski patroller in Utah's Wasatch Range, and as a coach for the CVA Backcountry program.

Ashley grew up skiing at a small mountain in central NY, but made her way to the Adirondacks and Vermont in college to pursue skiing and guiding. She is a ski instructor and coach of 15 years who has instructed all ages and all ability levels at 4 different mountains, though Killington is now her home base. Ashley is also a member of Rescue Inc’s Northern SAR Tech Team, and as a passionate outdoors person and "forever student," she is always pursuing experiences in backcountry exploration, outdoor education, and wilderness medicine.
Alex Bogner
Alex grew up in Woodstock, NY, where he got his start recreating outside, and continued his passion for the outdoors by attending Northern Vermont University - Lyndon, where he studied Mountain Recreation Management. While attending school at Lyndon, Alex began backcountry skiing and participated in his first avalanche courses. Since then, he has gone on to ski and work in many great mountain ranges across the country. Alex is an AIARE Course Instructor, backcountry ski guide, and aspiring commercial pilot who splits his time between the Rockies and New England.

Kate has been Adjunct Staff at Northern Vermont University in the Outdoor Education and Leadership department for the past 8 years. An avid snowboarder, patroller and formerly a USFS Avalanche Forecaster/Snow Ranger for Mount Washington Avalanche Center, she has been working in the snow professionally for the past 20 years.

Izzy Lazarus
Izzy grew up in the heart of NYC but found a passion for climbing when she moved to Vermont for college. After graduating, the road led her west to work for the Colorado Outward Bound School, teaching mountaineering, skiing and rock climbing programs year round. After several years of extended wilderness expeditions, she has found herself in the Tetons to take people on their high alpine adventures. Izzy spent a decade traveling, working and living in the Western US guiding alpine rock climbing, mountaineering and backcountry snowboarding experiences and teaching recreational avalanche education programs.
These days, Izzy is back in the Northeast working with University of Vermont's Outdoor programs and teaching avalanche education programs and guiding on the side. Izzy has a passion for education, conversation, cooking and mountain adventures.

Nathan Fry
Nate is an Army officer, guide, and educator with expertise on training the military’s mountain warfare community. Over the last two decades, Nate’s efforts to train and educate the Army about the need for mountain warfare resulted in the US involvement in Austria’s Edelweiss Raid ski mountaineering race and the first technical mountain warfare exercises conducted in the US Army since the 10th Mountain was disbanded after World War II. Nate has served as a Mountain Infantry company commander, executive officer and instructor at the Army Mountain Warfare School, and now works as the battalion commander for the Army’s legendary Mountain Battalion.

Matt was born and raised on the east coast. Falling in love with snowboarding and the mountains early on led to an education from Northern Vermont University, with the mountains as his classroom. His interest in the backcountry grew by exploring the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Matt now works as a heliski guide for Majestic Heli Ski Alaska. When not in Alaska, he spends the rest of his year in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
